Doggy Date: 4 Pet-Friendly Restaurants in Columbia, MD

Pet-Friendly Howard County

October’s  “Adopt-a-Dog Month!”

If you don’t already own a pet but are thinking about becoming one of 62% of American households that do, we encourage you to think about adopting a dog from a local shelter. Once you’ve thought through the responsibilities you’ll have, and gone through the list of questions to ask before you rent a pet-friendly apartment, it’s time for the fun part…

…taking your dog out and about! Unfortunately, few cats enjoy leaving home or walking on a leash. But if you have a well-behaved dog, there are several pet-friendly restaurants in Howard County that welcome furry BFFs. Here’s four of the best in Columbia, MD.

1. Pub Dog

8865 Stanford Blvd., Columbia, MD

Hours: Mon – Sun: 11:00am – 2:00am

If you have any doubt about how much Pub Dog loves canines, one look at their Twitter feed will put that to rest. In between posts about pumpkin ales and wishes for “Happy Fridays,” Pub Dog posts news stories about all kinds of our favorite furry friends. From an amazing story about a 9/11 rescue dog to photos of adorable pups, Pub Dog gets the #1 spot for sheer enthusiasm, amazing thin crust specialty pizza, creatively named beers (try the mixed breeds), and of course, their dog-friendly atmosphere.

2. Touche Touchet Bakery and Pastry Shoppe

10400 Shaker Drive, Columbia, MD

Hours: Fri: 7am – 6pm, Sat: 8am – 4pm, Sun: 9am – 3pm

“Fido deserves a treat too!” Touche Touchet Bakery claims on their Facebook page–and we tend to agree.

Touche Touchet might not be dog-themed, but they sure make up with it for their dog-friendly attitude and yes, dog cookies. Stroll in for one of their outstanding human treats, including a delectable selection of hand-decorated cookies and cakes, and don’t leave your pup at home. Your dog will love these fantastic homemade treats made just for them. (Particularly right after a great training session at the PetSmart right next to your luxury apartment in  Hanover, MD.) We’re willing to bet their dog-friendly spirit is part of the reason why this bakery has won Howard County’s “Best Bakery” award six years in a row.

3. The Second Chance Saloon

5888 Robert Oliver Pl., Ste A., Columbia, MD

Hours: Mon-Tue: 3:00pm – 12:00am, Wed-Thu: 3:00pm – 2:00am, Fri-Sat: 12:00pm – 2:00am, Sun: 12:00pm – 12:00am

Columbia’s “Home of 100 Beers” also happens to be dog-friendly! (We call that a win-win.) Hang out on the Cactus Bar & Patio with your pup, and enjoy a friendly atmosphere where the staff will quickly learn your name and preferred brew. Patrons call it a “true Columbia gem,” with solid pub food, friendly people, and plenty of events to keep you and Fido entertained.

4. The Tomato Palace

10221 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, MD

Hours: Mon-Thu 11:30am – 10pm, Fri-Sat 11:30am – 10:30pm, Sun 11:30am – 10pm

OK, so dogs probably won’t appreciate the whimsical murals and tomato-themed decor of the interior–but you’ll be sitting on the patio anyway. Order up a lobster pizza, try to keep it away from your pup, and enjoy a gorgeous view over the lake while the weather’s still nice.
